A medicine, vaccine, herbal or homeopathic remedy
Some products may appear to be medical devices are actually medicines, for example pre-filled syringes, hormonal contraceptives, or hormonal contraceptive coil.

A medical device
These are items used to treat or diagnose a condition or an illness, or help with a disability. For example medical devices include: equipment, dressings, implants, artificial limbs, blood glucose strips and meters, low dose heparin preparations for flushing catheters, some types of eye drops, insulin pens, thermometers, wheelchairs and some software/apps.

e-cigarette
Reporting safety concerns about a e-cigarette or refill containers (otherwise known as e-liquids). This can be reports of side effects or other specific safety concerns regarding the use of these products.

Suspected side effect, also known as an adverse drug reaction
These are unwanted effects that you consider are linked to taking a medicine. Side effects also include any effects from: misuse, abuse, an error in the way the medicine has been given or overdose (taking too much medicine). Reports can be made for any medicine (including specials and unlicensed products), any vaccine, herbal product, and complimentary remedies such as homeopathic remedies, blood factors (e.g. factors I to XIII) and immunuloglobulins (e.g. anti-D (RHO) immunoglobulin). You can even report suspected side effects from a drug you think might be happening as a result of interactions with food and drink.

This is where a medicine is not of an acceptable quality.

The medicine you used was not right for what you needed it to do.

You suspect the medicine you used is fake, or otherwise not genuine.

Always read the patient information leaflet, or instructions supplied with your medicine or medical device. It lists the known side effects or problems and advises you on what to do.
